Well, I hope you can see how much time I spent putting those words in the right order. What we give to you today is the pilot episode we constructed for TU (that’s the in-the-know lingo for Tycho & Ulf). The initial idea was sparked in the community by none other than dalin. It sounded completely random at the time, but hey, I’d say that’s usually one of the characteristics of genius.

“Glorious panthers of the heavens!” I hear you shout. “What is this!?”

The Amazing Adventures of Tycho & Ulf is a sock puppet film-series project with a production budget so low it makes even first-year student movies look like box office top-three Hollywood creations. In other words: This is edutainment at its finest!

Without further digression, please sit back, get some beverages and enjoy the ten minute pilot of The Amazing Adventures of Tycho & Ulf.

One of the exhibition halls.

I forgot the battery charger for my own camera at home and had to spend the preceding few days looking to buy a new one at a decent price. Unfortunately I didn’t find any, and I managed to lose the battery somewhere while at it. In other words, check out some pictures AoS grabbed from the event over in their event section instead.

As a total surprise I brought a laptop with Aion playable for those who weren’t able to make it to Leipzig this year. Needless to say, the affection was immediate.

After getting rid of the initial Aion-twitches, we headed outside the exhibition area to grab a bite, courtesy of NCsoft.

You will be surprised to find that DreamHack takes place far out in the suburban concrete woods of Jönköping, Sweden, and as such is located painfully far away from anywhere with great food. We ended up taking up all the chairs and tables of a fast food place where paper plates and plastic cutlery had been put out to celebrate the occasion.

To sum it up, I had great fun hanging out with everyone, grabbing the group picture and trying to write AION with human bodies in front of the camera. Definitely looking forward to meeting everyone again next year!

I actually have a Killer NIC card in my aging desktop PC. Flame all you want, but I can tell the difference between playing Halo PC on my laptop and on my s939 Opteron 165 and Geforce 7600GT-based tower. If you guys want to play some Halo PC or FEAR Combat (MP) sometime, let me know. I’m almost always up for a game or two. :)

So Aux, what game do you want? Keep in mind that the Tabula Rasa CEs are probably going to become worth something in the future, heheh, what with the game shutting down forever in Feburary and all. ;)

As for the rest of you winners, I’ve finally chosen the Fanvideo finalist. Now I will choose the grand prize and first prize winners out of all of you, like I originally stated in the thread announcing the contest. You can also review the prizes there.

Choosing the Fanvideo winner was the most difficult task for me. There were a lot of good entries that, when taken together, formed a well-rounded approach and view of Aion and it’s differnt types of fans. Omgwhathappened’s entry, for instance, was a comparison between WoW and Aion, used the Jeopardy theme, and also used some pretty heavy metal to get its point across: that Aion is awesome (metal) compared to the aging WoW (Jeopardy) and some of its fans are kinda edgy (what, no wai). Unfortunately, these same properties make it a video I can’t choose as the winner. This may sound like betrayal coming from me, but is WoW really as boring as Jeopardy? Is Aion entirely populated by metalheads? Probably not. I’m not saying Omg’s entry was horrible, I’m just saying it’s a bit too niche and may only appeal to a few people.

Also, every time I saw a watermark or logo from another website I mentally did a flip. I understand that some video is just too awesome to leave out, even if it has a watermark, but it kinda defeats the purpose of the contest: to advertise Aion and AionSource.com. Lots of entries had these leftover watermarks, but the few that didn’t made a better impression on me.

Like I was saying, choosing the Fanvideo finalist was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make (I sure as hell took me a lot longer than choosing the other finalists), but in the end I didn’t settle for the fan-favorite video by knite16 (a ton of effort and love went into that one, but it was a bit too long and more fit to be a trailer than an ad) or even Saken’s HQ entry (which I liked very much, but it used a little bit too much hyperbole to be believable to the Aion-uninitiated). No, I chose an entry that actually focused both a bit on the game and a bit on AionSource.com:

Gladorian’s entry (LQ Youtube version available in the Members’ Choice Award thread) is the Fanvideo contest winner (finalist)! It helped that his entry was only 30 seconds long and was extremely polished, among other things. Congratulations, Glad!

Thanks to everyone who spent their valuable time to make something for this contest. I watched all your entries at least three times and I could tell you all like Aion very much. I wish I could give out more prizes, but I simply cannot without bankrupting my stash for future contests. And, yes, there will be more contests in the near future. :)

Now the circle is complete and I can start thinking about who the grand and first prize winners are. Phew. The practice of giving stuff away is a genuine art, my friends. ;)

Today is a a new chapter of Aion lore added to both the Elyos and Asmodian background stories….
