Patch on Saturday
We are closing to the end of open beta and are with that putting a busy week of testing, bug hunting and insistent server improvements behind us. We have come a long way since day one and very happy to see all the positive things you have to say about Aion, but we are still at a point where can do a lot to improve connectivity performance and make the game a better and smoother experience for everyone.
The frosting on this beta's cake will manifest itself through a dazzling new patch starting distribution on Saturday 9/12/2009 at 5 p.m. CST/11 p.m. BST (more). We want to make up for the lost playtime not only by the long list of improvements that are shipped, but also by adding an additional 6 hours to the end of open beta. Open beta will end on Monday 9/14/2009 at 2 a.m. CST/8 a.m. BST (more)
It will take us a while to implement all the tasty updates, but if Aion is with us, Atreia will once again thrive with players and life two mere hours later. For European players who prefer to leave night watch to our owl friends in the animal kingdom, this is an excellent chance to leave your launcher on over night to make sure Aion gets patched up and ready for Sunday! The patch is about 630MB big so you might want to consider doing this.

Nice! I am glad they finally fixed the mouse thing. I don't like click-to-move but if I wanted to use the mouse to run forward and turn I had to enable the click-to-move and disable the left mouse camera ... but this is how i move in combat so I had to do it. But now it is fixed! Hazzah!
When do you think the servers are coming back on?
Well it says that if all goes well they are guessing it will be back up in 2 hours after taking it down. It went down at 5pm Central so that means it should be up at around 7pm Central if all goes well.
man, thought i missed out on the end of beta, glad to know it's just a patch
Getting decent speed from the launcher 300KB/s. Normally don't get over 100.
Yeah, launcher went steady at 300 for me as well, was quite impressed, didn't take the servers long to come back up either.
My download speed stayed pretty much between 250 and 300 throughout.
As far as the patch itself, I didn't like the reduction in the number of channels it made it a bit crowded in a couple of places trying to get some mobs. It will probably be ok once server populations stabilize, but its going to make the first couple weeks a real pain. Unless its doing the number of channels based on the server population at the time.
They're going back to 10 channels for release, it was done as a test for later on when they can make the channels scale to population in the zone. There was apparently a post on the beta boards about it, but I've never once been able to get on there so, I can't link the source.
Yeah, I did see the beta post just now where they said that. Generally, don't complain about game changes, but that one had me worried.

Nice!
I wish they would stick with a single time zone reference though -- before they were using Pacific time, now they using Central? (And don't hey realize we're largely still in Daylight time?) ...
Great news about the extension and improvements, though! Woo! =D
