This is probably a dumb question but I'll ask anyway.

If i pre-order the game online do they ship the game to you like game disk in box and all or does pre-ordering it just give you access to downloading the game?

I've never really pre-ordered anything over the internet before so i don't know how that works.
thanks for any help.

Well from my experience if you install the client to play for beta you will allready have the game installed. Sometimes they allow you a few days once the game goes live to go pick up your game, or allow for lags in shipping. Once you get the disc you usually just have to register the cdkey online.

So I guess what I am saying is both. You will have access to download the game, but they will definitly send you a hard copy.

OK, Thanks for the help. Just making sure i would get a hard copy.

Also do you guys think its worth spending the extra $10 for the collectors edition? Im trying to save for a car so i dont want to be spending the money if it isn't worth the extra $.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have some questions about pre-ordering too.

I have 2 copies of CE ordered, one thru amazon and one thru gamestop.  I just got an email from amazon saying that the release date of aion was Sept 22 (duh) and that the estimated arrival date was Oct 5-9.  So do I need anything that they will be sending me in order to play in the early head start that aion will have?  I'm already playing in the betas, so I'd like to assume I will be able to get in game for the head start too... but thought I'd ask what you all think since this is my first time doing a pre-order.. not sure what to expect.

Thanks in advance :)

Considering a part of the CE preorder package is that we get a few days head start to play, I'd say you are good to go for the release of the game. The actual game box and contents are just for your collection as far as I know.

Yep, once you have that preorder key, you dont need anything else to play head start.

And from my experience with pre-ordering online, I've noticed that most major game retailers ship the product a day or two before the real release date, so the person recieves it on or only one or two days afer the release date.

Oh and also, Amazon's estimated delivery dates are pure bull.

I am confused about one thing though... At what point will we be required to add our retail key to our accounts? Because I know eventually we will have to do that.. or we wont be allowed to play (otherwise, everyone would just preorder, get the key, cancel, and end up avoiding the $50-70 for the game).

Once you have the CD-Key, you can use it on your master account and download the game and play in the head start. As others have said, the box and other stuff is just hard copy.

Nippero, You put the CD-Key in when you get it and your account changes to pre-order, that's the only key you need. You need it to play in the preview events unless you get a preview event only key from promotions. I think companies that you pre-order from arent so stupid to allow people to recieve their CD-Key and then cancel. In fact gamestop even has a message bolded in red that says once you recieve your CD-Key you will be unable to cancel your order.

No no, the key from pre-ordering and the key in the actual retail game box is different. The key we got emailed to us for pre-ordering isnt our CD-Key. We wont have that key until we get the actual game.

But anyway, it doesnt matter. I asked on AS and got my answer. Theres a grace period before we get locked out of our accounts for not having a retail CD-Key.

Lol, nevermind....disregard last transmission.

heres something I got from amazon in the mail ...

More about your pre-order bonus:

  • The pre-order code you have received in this email expires 30 days after the release of Aion.
  • When you receive your Aion box, redeem your final product serial code (found in the physical game box) as described in the game box, and install the game program in the game box DVDs.
  • If you have any questions regarding the installation of Aion, contact the Tech Support team via http://help.ncsoft.com
  • For updates about this offer at Amazon.com, visit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000386371
  • In-game items available with the final in-box code will include, the Ancient Ring of Earth (exclusive to Amazon.com), the Black Cloud Helmet (a stat boost), and the Lodas Amulet (XP boost).

So are they saying that even though you Downloaded the game online, when the hard copy comes you will have to install that and probably take off the client.
